
Women?s Tennis Falls to Louisville, 5-2

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- The University of Alabama women's tennis team fell in a hard-fought battle to Louisville today at the UA Varsity Courts. With the loss, Alabama falls to 2-2, while Louisville improves to 4-2.
The Crimson Tide made a strong effort to come back after losing the doubles point. Alabama freshmen Meritt Emery and Tiffany Welcher picked up singles wins to put the Tide within one of the Cardinals. Emery defeated Natalia Baez, 6-4, 6-1, from the No. 4 slot, while Welcher beat Lindsey Jones, 6-4, 6-4, from the No. 1 position.
Down 3-2, the Tide made comebacks at nos. 3 and 6 in the singles lineup but could not pull out wins. Sophomore Paulina Bigos picked up a win in the second set of her match before falling to Bianca Gorbera, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 3. Senior Andrea Brenes was the last Tide player off the court today. She battled with Jo-Ann Van Aerde for over an hour at the No. 6 slot but eventually lost the match.
Alabama is back in action tomorrow at the UA Varsity Courts to face the 74th ranked Rice Owls. The match is schedule for 12:00 p.m.
