Women's Track Heads to SEC Indoor Championships

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama women's track and field team will go up against some of the top teams in the nation this weekend at the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The meet will be held in Fayetteville, Ark. at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
Alabama had a week of training to prepare for the meet after running on the very same track two weeks ago at the prestigious Tyson Invitational. The first event will be the pentathlon, which will begin today at 4:00 p.m. with the 60m hurdles.
Seven teams in the conference head to Fayetteville that are ranked in the USTFCCCA indoor poll. Top ranked LSU will look to knock off defending champion, No. 4 ranked Tennessee. Host Arkansas breaks in the top 10 with a No. 9 ranking while Florida (14), Ole Miss (15), Kentucky (22) and South Carolina (25) round out the top 25.
The Crimson Tide got a nice preview to the SEC Championships by wrapping up the Tyson Invitational two weeks ago at the Randal Tyson Track Center. Junior Betty Rotich eclipsed the provisional time in the 5000m with a finish of 16:40.17. Sophomore Chelsea Taylor also dipped under the 200m provisional mark with a time of 23.80. Senior Trish Bartholomew lowered her provisional time in the 400m with a time of 53.22. Freshman Haley Moody ran a personal best in the 5000m with a time of 17:12.83.
Senior Julia Hicks ran a 9:44.63 in the 3000m while sophomore Ashley Ard ran a career-best in the 3000m with a time of 10:28.26. Sophomore Kimberley Laing ran a career best 7.73 in the 60m.
Freshman Angelica Howard uncorked a personal best in the weight throw with a heave of 52-04.00. The 4x400m relay team just missed a provisional time with a finish of 3:41.73. Alabama will look for senor Trish Bartholomew and sophomore Chelsea Taylor to lead the Tide at the SEC Championships this weekend.
