TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- The 20th ranked University of Alabama men's tennis team hosts No. 56 Indiana this weekend in its first outdoor home match of the dual match season. The match is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 24 at 11:30 a.m. at the UA Varsity Courts.
"Indiana will pose a great challenge," said Alabama head coach Billy Pate. "They have a good team and had a great win over Kentucky a few weeks ago. We're excited to get back outdoors and hopefully stay outdoors for the rest of the season."
The Crimson Tide is 7-3 overall in dual matches this season. Alabama is 3-3 against ranked squads and 2-0 against team ranked above No. 25. The Tide is led by juniors Daniel Buikema and Mathieu Thibaudeau at the No. 1 doubles spot. The tandem is 9-1 in dual matches and holds a No. 37 national ranking.
The Hoosiers, 6-1 overall, head into the weekend on a two match winning streak. Indiana's only loss of the season came in a 4-3 decision to Iowa on Feb. 2. Indiana will face Troy tomorrow before heading to the Capstone Sunday.
Alabama trails the series with Indiana 5-6 all-time, dating back to 1951. Sunday's match marks the first meeting between these two teams in 15 years. In 1993, the Tide defeated the Hoosiers 5-2.
The UA Varsity Courts are located across the street from the Student Recreation Center, between the softball fields and Capstone Village. Admission to the event is free.
