TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama Gymnastics team returns to action Friday, taking on No. 5 LSU in Baton Rouge. It marks the Crimson Tide’s third meet against a top-10 opponent this month and second against a top-5 team.
Alabama comes into the meet after a rare mid-season weekend off from competition, a break that head coach Sarah Patterson said came at a good time.
“We were able to use the break from competition to catch our breath a little bit,” Patterson said. “We rested our legs a bit and also worked on the things that will help us down the roads like stuck landings and hitting our handstands.”
The Tide faces and LSU team that is hitting its stride, climbing to its highest ranking of the season. Alabama hasn’t lost a dual meet to the Tigers since 2002, when the two teams met in Baton Rouge. The Tide went on to win its fourth NCAA Championship that season.
Alabama will once again be wearing its pink leotards as LSU hosts its first “pink” meet, to support breast cancer awareness. The Tide is undefeated when wearing pink. This will be the team’s third “pink” meet this season, having participated in Auburn’s breast cancer awareness meet and hosting Arkansas in the Tide’s fourth annual “Power of Pink” meet.
