TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? The University of Alabama softball team moved to a perfect 7-0 on the season with a five-inning 10-2 win over New Mexico in game three of the Hampton Inn Crimson Classic at the UA Softball Complex on Friday night.
Junior outfielder Brittany Rogers, who leads the team in batting average, runs scored and stolen bases, was a thorn in the side of the Lobos and sparked the Tide offense in the victory. Rogers went a perfect 4-of-4 from the plate, improving her season average to .783. She stole two bases, scored three runs and drove in one.
Jordan Praytor drew three walks and scored twice, while Lauren Parker went 2-for-2 with a team-high 4 RBI in the game.
The Tide scored eight runs in the first three innings, which was easily enough for senior pitcher Chrissy Owens, who moved to 2-0 after recording the win. Owens went the distance, giving up two runs on two hits. She struck out three and gave up one walk.
Kyla Nelson got the loss for the Lobos, giving up 10 hits and 10 runs in 4 2/3 innings. Analise Rubalcava and Kim Holyfield recorded hits for New Mexico.
The Tide faces Middle Tennessee in the fourth and final game of first-day action at the Hampton Inn Crimson Classic. Charlotte Morgan is set to toe the rubber for UA, who looks to move to 8-0 on the season.
A recap of the Alabama-Middle Tennessee contest will follow, along with box scores, updated stats and live stats links can be found on the Tide’s official web site, RollTide.com.
