
Bes Named SEC Player of the Week

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- Alabama men's tennis player Javier Bes picked up the SEC Player of the Week nod after turning in a perfect 4-0 performance last weekend, announced the league office today. The award is the first for Bes and the first for the Tide this year.
Bes picked went undefeated on the weekend in singles and doubles. The senior from Zaragoza, Spain earned the Tide's first singles victory in the team's 6-1 win over Cal-Irvine. Against No. 21 Pepperdine, Bes defeated Johannes de Villiers, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, to clinch the match in Alabama's 4-3 victory over the Waves. Bes' win over de Villiers broke Pepperdine's 58 home match winning streak.
Alabama heads to Seattle, Wash. this weekend to participate in the 34th annual ITA National Team Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Washington. The Tide kicks off the event against No. 7 Texas Friday, Feb. 15 at 5:30 p.m.
