TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- The 12th ranked University of Alabama men's tennis team hosts a pair of ranked opponents this weekend in the last double-header of the pre-season. The Crimson Tide squares off against No. 65 Furman Sunday at 10:00 a.m. before facing off against No. 57 Georgia State at 3:00 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility.
"So far this spring we've done a good job of preparing and taking each match that is in front of us," said Alabama head coach Billy Pate. "Furman and Georgia State are ranked teams and our next challenge so our focus is on doing the things it will take to be successful this weekend."
Alabama, 3-0, 0-0 SEC, heads into the weekend on a three-match winning streak after downing Troy and Southern Mississippi last weekend.
The Tide is 11-1 all-time against Furman, 0-2, 0-0 So Con, since the series inception in 1964. Last season the team defeated the Paladins 6-1.
Alabama is 5-1 all-time against Georgia State, 1-1, 0-0 CAA, since the teams first meeting in 1958. The last time these two teams met was in 2003 when the Tide downed the Panthers 6-1.
"Both are solid teams and as always with a double header we'll need to maintain our focus and not treat one match with more importance than the other," said Pate. "We had great fan support last weekend during our home opener and I certainly hope that continues. Our team is really appreciative of our supporters and we encourage everyone to come out and get involved."
