TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Rolltide.com and the Alabama women's cross country team have started a new weekly segment called Seven Questions. Select players and coaches will check in weekly on Rolltide.com and answer questions pertaining to things on and off the field. The 10th edition features senior Farrah Stewart.
Rolltide.com: When and why did you start running?
Farrah Stewart: I started running track in 7th grade because basketball season had ended and I was bored and wanted to have something to do after school. Then I was put into the 4x800m, 1600m and 3200m and I fell in love!
Rolltide.com: Why did you choose to come to The University of Alabama?
Stewart: I chose to come to Alabama because it was close-by and I have always dreamed of competing at the highest level. I don't think you can get any better competition than the SEC! Also, I was hosted by Julia Hicks (former All-SEC performer at Alabama) who really motivated and inspired me with her dedicated, hard work-ethic and the successes she experienced as a result.
Rolltide.com: What are your personal goals and what are the team goals for this year and career?
Stewart: Personally, I just want to work hard and get better each and every day. Our team is young, but booming with talent and I see us being extremely competitive at SEC's this year, and you can bet they will claim the title and even make an appearance at the national meet in the near future.
Rolltide.com: Do you have a pre-race ritual?
Stewart: Before a race I just like to warm-up properly and stretch thoroughly. I also like to vision the race in my mind, seeing myself competing hard and feeling fast, strong, and confident throughout.
Rolltide.com: What's your favorite race and why?
Stewart: I really don't have a favorite race. I love to run anywhere! Haha!
Rolltide.com: Other than running, what Olympic sport would you want to compete in and why?
Stewart: Maybe gymnastics because all the girls are really short so I would definitely fit in!
Rolltide.com: As the lone senior on the team, do you see yourself as a leader for the younger runners? How so?
Stewart: I guess my experience at UA would help me to be seen as a leader.
