TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy announced the signing of Nicole Yancey to a National Letter of Intent. Yancey will join the Tide from Whitesburg, Ga. where she currently plays at Central Carrollton High School.
"We believe Nicole is one of the best power hitters in the nation and will have a great impact for the Tide for years to come," Murphy said. "She was heavily recruited but was an early Alabama commit. We are very excited to see her in Crimson."
The power hitter was named the Carroll County Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons (2006-07). Yancey is in the adidas top 100 and was named an Under Armour All-American. Yancey has been named first-team All-Region in back-to-back-to-back seasons and was the 3A Player of the Year in 2007.
Yancey helped lead her team to region titles in 2005-07. She also led the state in walks with 55 and was named the offensive MVP in 2005.
Yancey holds the Georgia state record for home runs in a season with 16 and a career with 40. She also holds her high school record for round trippers in a single game with three. Her first career home run happened to be a grand slam. She plays for the Georgia Elite club team that finished 13th at Gold Nationals.
