
Women's Basketball Gears up for Samford

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's basketball team hosts the Samford Bulldogs on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 6:00 p.m. (CST) in Coleman Coliseum. Both teams are fresh off season-opening wins.
"We learned a lot in our first game," said Head Coach Wendell Hudson. "I think the highlight was we did the things in the end of the game that we needed to do to win. For me, that was more beneficial than winning by a lot. We are going to have another test tomorrow. Samford is a good basketball team. Our goal is to keep going out there and win basketball games."
Alabama leads the all-time series with the Bulldogs 7-1. The Tide has won all four matchups at Coleman Coliseum. Although, Alabama leads the series, the Bulldogs took the last meeting between the in-state rivals with a 48-46 win last season on Nov. 13, 2007.
The Tide is coming off its first game of the season, a 64-55 win over Centenary College. Sophomore guard Alyson Butler led Alabama with 13 points, while classmate Katie Hancock also posted big numbers for Alabama with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward, Tierney Jenkins stepped up defensively with three steals and 10 rebounds.
Samford is also coming off its first win topping Jacksonville State 68-55. Junior guard Monica Maxwell led the Bulldogs with 16 points and five rebounds followed by senior guard Karmen Smith with 12 points. Samford also defeated Montevallo, 79-57, in exhibition play. Last season, the Bulldogs posted a 23-9 record last season, while finishing 15-5 in conference play. They return three starters from the 2007-08 squad.
