TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Farrah Stewart is the lone senior on the 2008 Crimson Tide this season. Stewart, however, redshirted this cross country season so she will have one more season in 2009. She first competed for Alabama during her sophomore year after transferring from Troy University.
"I chose to come to Alabama because it was close-by and I have always dreamed of competing at the highest level," Stewart said. "I don't think you can get any better competition than the SEC!"
Stewart is the one of the leaders of a very young team that is comprised of 10 of the 13 members being underclassmen. Even though the team is inexperienced at this level, they haven't shown it as they already raised the bar at the SEC Championships from last year's team with a finish of seventh place. The Tide finished 10th at the 2007 championships.
With Stewart taking the year off, she plans to work on lowering her times from last year and help the team possibly make an appearance at the 2009 NCAA Championships.
"Personally, I just want to work hard and get better each and every day," Stewart said. "Our team is young, but booming with talent and we hope to even make an appearance at the national meet in the near future."
The squad will compete at the NCAA South Regional this weekend on Nov. 15 in Knoxville, Tenn. They will look for a top 10 finish, something they haven't done since 2000 when they put together a 10th place finish.
