TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Rolltide.com and the Alabama women's cross country team have started a new weekly segment called Seven Questions. Select players and coaches will check in weekly on Rolltide.com and answer questions pertaining to things on and off the field. The sixth edition features freshman Sarah Gilmore.
Rolltide.com: When and why did you start running?
Sarah Gilmore: I began running in the 7th grade because I got cut from volleyball tryouts.
Rolltide.com: Why did you choose to come to The University of Alabama?
S. Gilmore: The University of Alabama has always been a huge part of my life. I could not imagine college anywhere else. Roll Tide!
Rolltide.com: What are your personal goals and what are the team goals for this year and career?
S. Gilmore: For my personal goals, I really want to decrease my times as much as possible. As for the team goals, I want us to be a team that contends for the SEC Championship. I want us to be the team to beat in upcoming years.
Rolltide.com: Do you have a pre-race ritual?
S. Gilmore: I usually stretch an hour before hand to ease my nerves. I try to stay calm and focused.
Rolltide.com: What's your favorite race and why?
S. Gilmore: My favorite race is the Alabama state course in Molten, Ala. The course is absolutely beautiful. It winds around a lake and has snake hills at the end that really reveal the true winners.
Rolltide.com: Other than running, what Olympic sport would you want to compete in and why?
S. Gilmore: I would want to compete in bobsledding because of the movie Cool Runnings!
Rolltide.com: What's it like to compete with and against your twin sister every day?
S. Gilmore: I compete with her every day, but only against her on race days. It helps me keep going even when I don't feel like it.
