TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama head women's cross country coach Randy Hasenbank led the Crimson Tide through their seventh week of practice and an off weekend in terms of competition. The squad continues to concentrate on strength work and endurance.
The Crimson Tide will take another week off from competition this weekend to get some girls healthy and ready to compete at the Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
"We are excited to compete against SEC and Region teams at the Chile Pepper Invitational," Hasenbank said. "It will be interesting to see how we stack up against those teams at this point in the season."
The Alabama women swept the SEC weekly awards for the second straight week as Vaughn was named SEC Athlete of the Week again and Kelsey Johnson earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors as announced by the Southeastern Conference last week for their efforts at the 36th Annual Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational.
The Tide will take its second week off this week after having three meets in the past five weeks. They will toe line in Fayetteville, Ark. next weekend. The race will serve as the first 6,000 meter race for most of the squad.
"This will be the biggest meet to date four our young runners," Hasenbank said. "I know that they are excited to compete."
The Crimson Tide will travel to Fayetteville, Ark. on Oct. 18 to compete at the Chile Pepper Invitational. The 6k race will be held at the University of Arkansas cross country course at 10:30 a.m.
