
Agustina de Giovanni named SEC Swimmer of the Week

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama junior Agustina de Giovanni was named Southeastern Conference Swimmer of the Week the league office announced today following a trio top-three finishes at the SMU Invite.
"Agustina had a great meet against some very tough competition," Alabama head coach Eric McIlquham said. "She has come off this summer's Olympics strong and is swimming really well right now."
De Giovanni took second in the 400 IM with a time that ranks her in the top 10 nationally. She was third in the 200 breaststroke and 200 IM, battling 2008 Olympic breaststroke champion Rebecca Soni in both events. She stands first in the SEC in the 200 breaststroke, second in the 400 IM, third in the 200 IM and fourth in the 100 breaststroke.
The SMU Invite featured six top-25 schools from across the nation. Alabama, ranked 25th, knocked off No. 20 Arizona State behind De Giovanni's performance. The International Relations major and her teammates return to action Nov. 7 at LSU.
