
Women's Golf Takes Third at the Derby

AUBURN, Ala. - The Alabama women's golf team earned its third top five finish in four outings this fall with a third place finish at the Derby Invitational in Auburn, Ala. The Tide shot a final round 296 (+8) on the University Club golf course to secure a spot in the top three finishing the tournament with a score of 892 (+28).
Arizona State won the team title with a three-day total of 869 (+5). Arizona State junior Anna Nordqvist took the individual honors shooting 207 (-9) for the tournament. Alabama finished first amongst the eight SEC teams competing in the Derby. The Tide finished just ahead of host Auburn who took fourth with a final score of 896 (+32).
Alabama showcased the balance that this year's team possesses at the Derby as four Tide golfers finished in the top 20 of the individual standings. Freshman Brooke Pancake nabbed her second top 10 finish of the fall with a ninth place finish after posting a 73 (+1) in the final round to finish up with a 220 (+4).
The Tide's Swedish tandem Camilla Lennarth and Helena Blomberg finished in a tie for 14th at 225 (+9). Lennarth shot 74 (+2) in the final round while Blomberg put up a 78 (+6).
Senior Kathleen Ekey fired the best round for Alabama on day three shooting a 71 (-1) to leap up the leaderboard into a tie for 17th. Ekey knocked in three birdies in the third round, which included birdies on two of the four par-3s on the course wrapping up the tournament with a score of 226 (+10).
Senior Laura Goodwin, competing in her first tournament of the season as an individual, finished in a tie for 40th at 233 (+17). Goodwin shot her best round of the tournament on day three leading UA with four birdies, and winding up with a 74 (+2). Sophomore Courtney Harter matched Goodwin's final total to also finish tied for 40th. Harter posted a 78 (+6) in round three.
Alabama's final outing of the fall will come at the Hooter's Match Play Championships Nov. 2-4. The tournament is hosted by the National Golf Coaches Association and will be played at the Ginn Reunion Resort in Celebration, Fla.
