
Sara Vaughn Named SEC Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southeastern Conference released its Freshman of the Week honors today for the seventh week of the cross country season. Freshman Sara Vaughn earned her second SEC Freshman of the Week honor.
Vaughn is now the first University of Alabama female runner to earn SEC cross country Athlete of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors twice.
Vaughn ran 21:04.12 over the course of 6,000 meters at the 20th Annual Chile Pepper Festival for an 18th place finish in a field of 306 athletes that included defending national champion Sally Kipyego (Texas Tech) and a number of highly ranked teams. The race was Vaughn's first ever 6k and has now led the Tide in every race this season. She helped lead the team to a 12th place team finish bettering last year's finish of 21st.
Vaughn currently leads all freshman in the SEC at 6,000 meters and her time ranks her third fastest in Alabama school history in the event.
