LEXINGTON, Ky. - The men's tennis team had a tough outing on Friday losing four matches at the 2008 Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Championship held at the Boone Tennis Center and Lexington Tennis Club. The Tide dropped one doubles match and three singles contests on the second day of play.
"We didn't quite have the results we wanted today but certainly had our chances," said head coach Billy Pate. "Everyone competed hard, but we simply needed to adjust better to the fast indoor courts. Some of those things are technical and we can fix them over time. Saturday presents another opportunity for us as what these three guys need are matches and experience."
Friday opened with doubles where Andrew Felsenthal and Ricky Doverspike dropped an 8-2 decision to Tennessee's Boris Conkic and Matteo Fago in the quarterfinal round.
In singles action, Doverspike was edged by South Florida's Romain Deridder 7-5, 7-6(5). Later in the afternoon, the Tide's Trey Walston and Felsenthal took court where each slipped up against his opponent. Walston fell to Vanderbilt's Bryant Salcedo 6-3, 6-2, while Felsenthal lost in the first set to LSU's Mark Bowtell 6-3 before being edged out in the second 7-6.
All three will compete in the singles consolation round Saturday at 3:30 p.m. (CST).
