TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama men's cross country coach Joe Walker led the Crimson Tide through their eighth week of practice and a week of no competition. The squad did not have class last Thursday or Friday due to the university's fall break so they were able to relax and train through the weekend.
"Last week went very well as we were able to get a very solid week in," Walker said. "We got some mile repeats in on the grass on Thursday morning and a solid long run on Saturday."
The Crimson Tide is getting ready for Pre-NCAAs this weekend after a week off and finishing third two weeks ago in Oregon behind No. 1 Oregon and No. 4 Portland.
Pre-NCAAs will be run on the NCAA Championships same course and will host several of the top 30 teams in the nation.
"This event will truly give us an idea of where we are at as far as the national picture goes," Walker said. "There should be around 20 of the top 30 teams in the country in attendance. We look forward to getting into a huge field and learning once again to move as a group and compete over the latter portion of the race."
The No. 6 ranked Tide will compete at the Pre-NCAA Invitational on Oct. 14. The squad will race against many of the top ranked teams in the nation on the same course that the NCAA Championships will be run on. This is the same course Alabama posted a sixth place team finish in 2007. It is the highest finish in school history.
