
Alabama Shares Lead After Morning Round at JPNI

BIRMINGHAM - Host school the University of Alabama and Southern Methodist University share the lead at 2-under par after the morning round of the 2008 Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate. Alabama and SMU shot 278 in the first round. The tournament is being played at Birmingham's Old Overton Club.
The tournament is playing 36 holes on Monday, so teams immediately moved into second round play Monday afternoon after finishing the opening round.
The team standings after 18 holes find Alabama and SMU leading at 2-under (278), followed at 2-over par by UNLV (282), North Carolina (283), tied at fifth Baylor and North Florida (285), at seventh Georgia State (286), tied at eighth at 7-over UAB and Auburn (287), at 10th Memphis (289), North Carolina-Wilmington (300) and Samford (302).
UNLV's Eddie Olson shot 4-under, 66, to emerge as the first round leader. He's a shot ahead of three players, Jordan Payne of Memphis, North Carolina's Kevin O'Connell and SMU's Kelly Kraft who all shot 3-under par, 67.
Alabama's low morning round was shared by both Matthew Swan and Bud Cauley who both shot 1-under par, 69. They are among a tie at sixth. Hunter Hamrick and Hunter Slatton are among a tie at 14th after shooting par, 70. And Phillip Weaver is T-24th after shooting 2-over par, 72.
