TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? The Alabama Gymnastics team starts the 2008 season off with a great meet against No. 23 ranked Illinois in the Crimson Tide’s home opener Friday, Jan. 11 starting at 7:30 p.m.
And while fans will be treated to outstanding competition and the chance for its first look at an Alabama team striving for its fifth NCAA Championship, the fun starts long before the meet gets underway. As a matter of fact it starts the moment fans walk in the door of Coleman Coliseum.
The Crimson Tide’s 2008 team schedule poster and magnetic schedules will be given away at the door as long as supplies last. Fans will have a chance to have their picture taken with Big Al or Big Alice prior to the meet in the coliseum lobby.
Fans will also be able to go on camera and “Ask the Coach” prior to the meet in the lobby. If their question is selected, it will be answered either on the Sarah Patterson Show or on the Jumbo-tron at a future meet.
All that before fans even get to their seats.
Once the meet gets started, “I-Night”, sponsored by Tuscaloosa Toyota, will keep things hopping. Fans will have the chance to win an iPod Shuffle, an iPod, an iPhone and an iTouch as well as Bose headphones and a Toys-R-Us gift card.
This year there will also be a “Best Seat in the House” prize pack given away at each meet. The winner of the BSH, sponsored by Tuscaloosa Toyota, will not only be moved down to a comfy couch on the floor of the coliseum prior to the meet’s final rotation, but they also win a 42” plasma television.
University of Alabama students have giveaways all their own as part of the Tuscaloosa Toyota Student Sweepstakes where they can register to win great prizes to be given out during the meet as well as be in the hunt for a semester’s worth of tuition. Three lucky UA students will have their names drawn during the meet with one winning an i-Mac computer, another will win $100 in Bama Cash and the third will take home a $100 book scholarship. Six more students will have their names drawn, earning a chance to win tuition for a semester. The winner of the tuition giveaway will be drawn at the Florida meet.
Of course the 9.8 shirts will be flying into the stands again this season, one for every 9.8 or better score by an Alabama Gymnast.
With all that will be going on from start to finish, there’s no doubt that Coleman Coliseum is THE place to be on an Alabama Gymnastics Friday night!
