TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Saturday night, during halftime of the Alabama-Georgia football game, in front of a sellout crowd of 92,138 fans, Crimson Tide gymnasts Terin Humphrey and Morgan Dennis were presented with their national championship rings by Athletics Director Mal Moore, and head coach Sarah Patterson, now in her 30th season coaching the Crimson Tide.
Humphrey, a senior, won her second NCAA Uneven Bars title last past spring, competing against one of the toughest fields in the history of collegiate gymnastics. Her title is Alabama Gymnastics' 20th individual NCAA Championship. The two-time silver medalist at the 2004 Olympics is the fifth Tide gymnast to win multiple national titles.
One of the most dynamic gymnasts in the nation last season, Dennis won the 2007 NCAA Floor Exercise Championship with a performance that electrified the crowd, bringing them to their feet. She is the fifth Alabama gymnast to win a national title as a freshman.
Alabama started official practice last week and opens the 2008 season in early January.
