Tide Golfers Rained Out Friday

DALTON, GA. ?? The first round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate has been postponed due to rain. Play in the 18-team tournament where the University of Alabama golf team is the defending champion was set to begin on Friday. The teams will play round one on Saturday morning and will immediately move into second round play. The third and final round will be on Sunday. The tournament is being held at The Farm in Rocky Face, Ga., and features a field where 13 of the teams are ranked among the preseason Top 25 in either Golfweek or Golfworld’s rankings. The five golfers competing for Alabama there this weekend, in order of their UA team seeding are Michael Thompson, Mark Harrell, Gator Todd, Matthew Swan and Matt Hughes. Hughes, a 2007 U.S. Amateur participant, is a native of Dalton, Ga., where the tournament takes place.
