
Tiffany Welcher Signs With Tide Women's Tennis

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.-Tiffany Welcher has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the University of Alabama women’s tennis freshman class of 2007-08, announced head coach Jenny Mainz. Hailing from Clarksville, Ind., Tiffany is one of the most accomplished freshmen to sign with the Crimson Tide in the program’s history.
In her four years at Clarksville High School she made two appearances in the state singles championship match, taking the title in 2006. She also captured the 2007 state doubles title with her sister as her partner and became the first female in Indiana history to win a singles and doubles state title. In 2006, Tiffany held the No. 1 spot in Indiana and in the Midwest and won an impressive 121 consecutive matches. Adding to her list of accomplishments, Tiffany received high school All-American accolades her senior year and was nominated for the Wendy’s High School Heisman trophy.
“Tiffany is a good sign for us and the future of this program,” said head coach Jenny Mainz. “We are thrilled to have her as a member of the Crimson Tide as she is very accomplished as an athlete and a scholar.”
Not only is Tiffany an accomplished athlete, but also she has proven herself in the classroom, which is becoming a mainstay quality with the women’s tennis program. Tiffany graduated in the top 10 of her class with a 3.938 GPA in AP honors.
Tiffany also participated in track, was a member of the math team and has a second degree black belt in Taekwondo.
“We expect big things from Tiffany in the future and we are confident she will contribute to our squad,” said Mainz. “Tiffany is a very driven and ambitious and her qualities will help escalate our program.”
