Rowing Beats Cincinnati in Second Race of the Spring

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - What a difference a week makes.
In it second outing of the spring season, The University of Alabama Rowing team faced off against Notre Dame and Cincinnati on Melton Lake, site of the NCAA Championships later this year, coming out with some very good and very encouraging results.
"We executed much better than we did a week ago and we improved up and down the line," Alabama head coach Larry Davis said of his team, which is in its first year of NCAA competition. "It is a big boost to our young program to row this well against this level of competition. We stuck right with everyone and rowed very well against top notch competition."
Alabama's first Varsity Eight took second place in its race, only trailing Notre Dame's first boat. The Irish took first with a 6:38.3 with the Crimson Tide coming in second with a 6:56.5. Cincinnati was third with a 7:02.3 and Notre Dame's second boat was fourth at 7:09.8.
"If we had rowed like this a week ago against Bucknell, we'd have won the race," Davis said. "Our women all showed great poise to be able to row against some big name programs and keep their focus and resolve like they did. I was very pleased with how we handled ourselves."
In the second Varsity Eight race, Notre Dame again came out on top with a 6:49.8, followed by Cincinnati at 7:05.7 and Alabama at 7:20.9.
In the first Novice race, Alabama was second to Notre Dame and came out on top over Cincinnati while in the second Novice race, which was a two-boat affair, Alabama took the win, beating Notre Dame. Alabama's first Novice boat crossed the line at 7:15.5 while the second Novice boat was clocked at 7:03.4.
The Crimson Tide is off from competition next weekend and returns to action March 31 in Dallas, Texas it will face off against SMU.
