MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The 14th-ranked University of Alabama men's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to seventh-ranked Notre Dame Sunday afternoon in the championship match of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center in Montgomery. The Tide won the doubles point before the Irish took four consecutive singles matches to win the match.
“We won the doubles point to get off to a good start, but we fell behind early again in singles and it proved to be just too much for us to overcome,” Tide head coach Billy Pate said. “We made a bit of a comeback, but you just don't have much room for error against a team of the caliber of Notre Dame. Overall, I can't help but be proud of how we played in this tournament. We showed a lot of grit and toughness. A lot of resilience. We definitely took a lot of positives from our play this weekend.”
Alabama now heads into the heart of its conference schedule with a road match at #30 Tennessee coming up this Friday and a big match with No. 1-ranked Georgia next Sunday in Tuscaloosa.
