TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? The Southeastern Conference announced on Monday that Alabama sophomore Lauren Parker was named the SEC Softball Player of the Week.
"It is a big honor considering all of the great players there are in the SEC," said Parker. "Anybody on our team could have been named player of the week for the way they played last weekend. It feels great to represent the University this way."
Parker, native of Port Neches, Texas, gives the Crimson Tide back-to-back SEC Player of the Week honors as Brittany Rogers received the award last week. Parker was named the Hampton Inn Crimson Classic Tournament MVP after leading them to a 6-0 record in the tournament and a 6-0 victory over #22 N.C. State in the championship game.
"Our team is full of amazing softball players and athletes," said Parker. "Anybody on this team could be named player of the week any week. It is a great way to represent the coaching staff, players and the university."
For the weekend Parker hit .643 (9-of-14) with six runs scored, three doubles, one home run, six RBI and two stolen bases. She set or matched tournament records for avg. hits, runs scored and doubles. She also reached base on a walk and was hit by a pitch twice to give her a .667 on-base percentage. She also posted a 1.071 slugging pct. She tallied four multi-hit games and scored a run in all six contests to keep the Tide undefeated at 16-0 on the year.
Parker and the fifth-ranked Crimson Tide will head to Birmingham on Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. contest with Samford. They will then return home to host Seton Hall and #9 Louisiana Lafayette in the Easton Spring Fling this weekend.
