TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? The Alabama softball team took time away from their busy schedule to volunteer for a pancake breakfast put on by the Kiwanis Club of Tuscaloosa on Saturday.
“We were happy to help out at the pancake breakfast,” said Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy. “We felt like it was a worthy cause when a good friend of ours Toby Wilson told us about it. Our relationship with him has been terrific for 10 years. It was good for us to get a break from softball and do something in the community.”
The Kiwanis Pancake Day was held at Central High School. The fundraiser was to help raise money to support several programs the Kiwanis Club is active in including, building a park designed for individuals with cerebral palsy, the West Alabama Special Olympics, the 4-H Club, girl scouts and boy scouts and Reading is Fundamental.
The Crimson Tide softball team was in the middle of a three-day tournament, the Hampton Inn Crimson Classic, and still took the time to volunteer the morning of the second day of the tournament. No. 5 Alabama went on to go undefeated on the weekend at 6-0 and capture the tournament championship with a 6-0 victory over No. 22 N.C. State.
Alabama will look to stay undefeated on the year when they travel to Birmingham on Wednesday for a non-conference game against Samford at 6:30 p.m.
