TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Paulina Bigos' bio might say she is from Chicago, Ill. but in actuality she came a lot further to get to where she is today. Growing up in Poland, she started playing tennis at age ten with her older sister. Paulina showed enthusiasm for the game at an early age, sticking with the lessons long after her sister moved on. At age thirteen she started competing and everyone knew she had a future in tennis. In order to afford their daughter a better opportunity to play tennis, the Bigos' left Poland and moved thousands of miles to Chicago in their family's best interest.
Paulina learned to speak English at age seven in Poland with the help of private lessons, and it only took her a couple of months to become fluent upon moving to the States.
Paulina's Thoughts On:
Superstitions: "I'm not superstitious, I just like to be very prepared for everything. I check my bag precisely to make sure I have everything."
Music before games: "It depends on my mood. Before matches I like music that gets me fired up like techno or rock. I like the latest Madonna CD, it's very motivating."
Choosing Alabama: "I choose Alabama because of the coaches and the tennis program here. I thought the way they teach here would improve me."
