TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Tide went undefeated in pool play, winning their third game of the tournament and eighth straight to start the season with a 13-0 victory in five innings against Toledo. UA used a nine-run third inning to break the game open.
Mandy Buford was hit by a pitch to lead off the third inning and would later score on a single up the middle by Jessica Smith. Michelle Menningmann and Katie Johnson then hit back-to-back doubles to drive in two runs and one run, respectively. Brittany Rogers followed with an inside-the-park home run to deep center, her second straight game with an inside-the-park home run. It was only her third career collegiate at bat from the right side of the plate and scored two runs.
After Jordan Praytor walked, Mandy Burford hit a home run to left field for her fourth home run of the season in just eight games. Alabama would get back-to-back home runs as Charlotte Morgan matched Buford in the next at bat with a solo shot for her first collegiate home run. In the inning, the Tide scored nine runs on seven hits to take an 11-0 lead.
Alabama added two more runs in the fourth winning when Smith singled to lead off the inning and Menningmann hit her first career home run for two more RBI's.
Menningmann finished 2-for-2 in the game with three runs scored and four RBI. Rogers went 2-for-3 with one run and three RBI. Burford had one hit in two at bats with two runs scored and two RBI and Smith was 2-of-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.
Potter improved to 2-0 on the season on her senior day at the Alabama Softball Complex. She pitched all five innings with three hits allowed, three walks and four strikeouts to improve to 7-0 in her career at the Capstone.
