
Women's Basketball To Close Out Exhibition Play

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? The University of Alabama women's basketball team hosts its second and final exhibition game of the 2007-08 season on Sunday, Nov. 4, with a contest against Mississippi College. The Tide opened its preseason on Oct. 31 with an 80-53 win over instate rival West Alabama. The game with Mississippi College is set for 3:30 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum.
The contest marks the first of the season for the Mississippi College Choctaws. The Choctaws, who play in the American Southwest Conference are coming off a 16-8 overall record. Head coach Paul Allen Duke enters his 13th season with the Choctaws and sports a 235-82 record at MC. The matchup marks the first time the two programs have met in exhibition play.
The Choctaws lost its most dominate player in Lacey Kennedy. Kennedy led Mississippi College in scoring in 21 of the 24 games in 2006-07 and also led the squad in rebounds in 16 contests. The Choctaws also lost its second leading scorer in Natalie Jordan. MC does return sophomore Emily Younger. As a freshman, Younger averaged 6.7 points per game and appeared in all 24 games with 16 starts.
Alabama opened its exhibition slate with an 80-53 victory over in-state rival West Alabama Wednesday night from Coleman Coliseum. The Tide got double-digit performances from four different players to earn the exhibition win against the Tigers. The win marked the fifth in a row for Alabama in exhibition openers.
Eight underclassmen saw time in the game against West Alabama with four recording double-digits in points. In her first collegiate game, Tierney Jenkins scored 18 points and nearly missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Fellow freshman Daleisha Carn added 10 points and shot 50 percent from the floor.
The sophomore tandem of Talisha Chandler and Dedrea Magee provided the punch for the Tide. Chandler recorded 18 points and 16 rebounds while Magee poured in 14 points and grabbed 10 boards.
The Crimson Tide opens its regular season on Saturday, Nov. 10, in Tuscaloosa with a 2 p.m. game against Tulane.
