GRAND BAHAMAS ?? The University of Alabama women’s basketball team arrived in the Grand Bahamas to participate in the Junkanoo Jam. The Tide arrived on the island a little after 4 p.m. EST and are staying in the Lucaya Westin on the shores of the Grand Bahama Island. Today is the first entry of a daily log that will be posted on Rolltide.com.
“We are very excited to arrive safely in the Bahamas with no travel glitches,” head coach Stephany Smith said. “Though the weather has been beautiful in Tuscaloosa it is nice to have the same kind of weather, even a little warmer with an ocean view to boot. We are very appreciative of Coach Moore to allow us to take this trip. We look forward to a great week and to continue to get things on the right track.”
The team left the Alabama campus at 6:20 a.m. CT for the first leg of the trip to the Birmingham International Airport. The Tide then connected in Atlanta and took the one and a half hour flight into the Freeport Grand Bahamas Airport.
“I’m really excited to be here,” sophomore guard Tamara Williams said. “It’s a great opportunity to play basketball in a beautiful setting.”
Alabama will begin its preparations for the tournament opener with Eastern Michigan with a 9 a.m. EST practice at St. George High School.
The Tide has a lot planned for the Thanksgiving holiday which will be covered in tomorrow’s posting. The first game is scheduled for Friday, November 23 at 1 p.m. at St. George High School.
