AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Alabama Rowing team closed out its fall season with a dominating performance at the Head of the South Regatta on the Savannah River.
Alabama won four of the five races it entered, set three course records and finished first and second in two events.
"Everybody, whether they medaled or not, rowed very well today," head coach Larry Davis said. "Up to this point, we hadn't rowed our best race yet and there's no doubt that we did that today."
The Crimson Tide's A boat won the Championship 8 race in a course record time of 16:37.4, finishing more than 30 seconds ahead of Jacksonville. The Tide's C boat was third and the B boat was fourth with times of 17:31.5 and 17:42.2 respectively.
Alabama went one-two in the Championship 4 race. The A boat won with an impressive time of 18 minutes flat, followed by the B boat at 18:42.00. The Tide C boat was fourth with a 18:53.00.
Alabama took first and second in the Novice 8 race with the B boat taking first with a 18:56.5, followed by the A boat's 19:06.4. In the Novice 4 race, the Tide's A boat took the silver with a 20:10.6, behind Jacksonville, while Alabama's C boat was third at 20:16.0.
In the Lightweight 4 Alabama took the gold with a time of 18:43.2, which would have placed third in the Championship 4 event.
"Hopefully, finishing off the fall season with such a strong showing will be motivation for our ladies to continue to work hard so that we can carry this momentum into the spring," Davis said.
Alabama returns to competition March 8 in a dual meet at UNC.
