DALLAS, Texas ?? The Alabama Women's Swimming and Diving team returns to action this weekend at the 14th annual SMU Classic held Friday and Saturday at Perkins Natatorium on SMU's campus.
The Crimson Tide will be one of six squads at the event, with each school bringing eight swimmers and a diver to the competition. All six schools, Alabama, SMU, Texas A&M, USC, Wisconsin and Florida State figure in the CSCAA preseason coaches' poll.
“It’s a good format,” Alabama head coach Eric McIlquham said. “It gives us a chance to go head to head with some of the best teams in the country and really get after it. It should be exciting”
A year ago, this meet served as a coming out party for Agustina de Giovanni who posted one of the fastest 500 freestyle times in school history on the way to winning the event in Dallas The sophomore now figures among the Tide’s all-time best in seven different events.
De Giovanni will be joined by senior Erin Sparks, junior Vanessa von der Heyde, sophomores Elle St. Charles and Maggie Zeblewski along with freshmen Kate Gray, Lauren Dunn, Ida Persson and Jenna Montgomery,
