TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? The University of Alabama women's golf team, ranked No. 14 in the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin poll, is set to host its first tournament since the fall of 2005 when the Tide welcomes a highly competitive field to the 2007 UA-Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate. The three-day event will be played at the NorthRiver Golf Club in Tuscaloosa from Friday, Oct. 26 thru Sunday, Oct. 28.
"We have a very competitive field scheduled at this year's tournament," said UA head coach Mic Potter. "With three teams in the top 10 and our team ranked in the top 15, it should be some very competitive golf on a great course. We hope that fans can make it out to see some of the best teams in the country this weekend."
The field at the 2007 UA-Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate features some of the most highly ranked teams in women's collegiate golf. Three teams in the field are ranked in the top 10, including No. 5 Florida, No. 6 Auburn and seventh-ranked Arkansas.
In addition to those teams, seven other squads come to Tuscaloosa ranked in the nation's top 40. Notre Dame, ranked 20th, is in the field, as is No. 24 LSU, No. 31 South Carolina, No. 33 Florida State, No. 35 Texas, No. 39 Louisville and 49th-ranked Kentucky.
Alabama enters the tournament following a top-10 finish at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships in Knoxville, Tenn., two weekends ago. Prior to that, the Tide won a team title in its second tournament of the fall season when it led from start-to-finish at the Wildcat Invitational in Lexington, Ky., in late September. Alabama swept the team and individual medals, as true freshman Courtney Harter captured the individual title while competing as an individual at the event.
Admission is free to the public at the UA-Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate. Play begins at 8:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday with a shotgun start scheduled for 8:40 on Sunday morning.
