TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? Alabama Gymnastics freshman Kassi Price is undeniably off to a fast start in her Crimson Tide career, climbing to the No. 1 spot in the national all-around rankings Monday.
Price, who has won the first two all-around competitions of her Crimson Tide career, jumped from No. 4 last week to No. 1 on the strength of a 39.450 all-around score against Florida in Gainesville.
Florida enjoys its second week in the top spot, followed by Georgia in second and Utah in third. Alabama slipped one place from last week landing at No. 5 following a three-fall balance beam performance last Friday that drowned any chance the Tide had of upsetting the Gators. Stanford jumped the Tide to land at No. 4.
And while Alabama had its troubles on the beam last weekend, it will be facing a squad that has been remarkably steady on that event so far this season on Friday when the No. 10 Auburn Tigers, currently ranked third on the balance beam, make their way to Coleman Coliseum. The Tigers are led by junior Julie Dwyer, currently ranked No. 1 on the balance beam.
Alabama is ranked No. 1 on the floor exercise for the second week in a row, led by four gymnasts in the top-25. Price is ranked No. 6 on the floor exercise, while freshman Morgan Dennis, is ninth, senior Erin Rightley is 12th and freshman Ricki Lebegern, is ranked 19th. The Tide is No. 4 on the vault, No. 12 on the balance beam and No. 14 on the uneven bars.
Price is also ranked 16th on the uneven bars and vault and 23rd on the balance beam. Junior Terin Humphrey is No. 4 on the uneven bars while Dennis is No. 16 on the vault.
Tickets for Alabama Gymnastics home meets are on sale through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum or online at www.rolltide.com.
