TUSCALOOSA ?? The Crimson Tide women’s basketball team looks for its first Southeastern Conference victory of the season on Sunday afternoon, when Alabama travels to Columbia, S.C., to face the Gamecocks in a 2 p.m. (CT) contest. The Crimson Tide Radio Network will carry the game, with David Crane on-hand to call the action.
Alabama (10-8, 0-3) played some of its best defense of the season on Thursday night against visiting Kentucky, but the Wildcats pulled out a victory in the waning moments of the contest. Kentucky’s Samantha Mahoney knocked down a tough shot in the lane with 1.8 seconds remaining to give UK a 63-62 victory in a game where UA led by three with a minute to play.
The Gamecocks (10-7, 0-2) are also in search of their first SEC victory after falling in a tough one-point loss to No. 14 Vanderbilt in Columbia in Thursday night. South Carolina, one of the most balanced teams in the league, does not have a player on the roster averaging in double figures in scoring, but have still managed to score 71.0 points per game.
The Tide continues a two-game road stretch on Thursday, Jan. 18, when the team travels to Fayetteville, Ark., to face the Razorbacks.
