
Cross Country Senior Julia Hicks Wins Belmont Opener

Alabama cross country runner Julia Hicks got her senior season off to a fast start, winning the Belmont Opener in Nasvhille, Tenn. Friday night while leading the Crimson Tide to a sixth place team finish.
It was the Tide’s first meet under new distance coach Randy Hasenbank. For Hicks it was the first win of her collegiate career. An All-SEC and All-Region performer last season, she posted a 13:56.78 over the 4-kilometer course.
Junior Jen Gray was Alabama’s next finisher, taking 37th with a 15:24.92. She was followed by sophomore Farrah Stewart who posted a 15:40.41 to take 45th.
Senior Elizabeth Wancowicz was 47th at 15:47.92 while redshirt freshman Whitney Taylor rounded out the Tide’s scoring five, crossing the line at 15:50.66 in 48th place. Freshman Anna Day finished 64th with a 16:25.16 while classmate Ashley Ard was 75th with a 15:48.56. In 78th, freshman Rue Chitwood turned in a 16:55.58.
