CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. ?? Laura Goodwin, a member of the Alabama women’s golf team who recently completed her freshman season with the Tide, has been honored by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) as a recipient of the NGCA All-American Scholar Award for 2005-06. Goodwin was among 371 athletes from NCAA Division I, II and III schools to earn the prestigious award.
The requirements for the NGCA All-American Scholar Award are among the most stringent for any postseason academic award in the nation. Each honoree must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 while competing in at least 50 percent of the team’s events during the season.
Goodwin, a native of Birmingham, was an integral member of the 2005-06 Tide unit that advanced to the NCAA Championship for just the second time in school history. Goodwin competed in each event in both the fall and spring portions of the season. She fired a career low 228 at the NCAA East regional to help Alabama advance to its first NCAA Championship in nearly two decades.
A member of the human environmental science (HES) program at the Capstone, Goodwin is the daughter of Ed and Peggy Goodwin.
