Stephany Smith’s first recruiting class at the University of Alabama had a fantastic spring season, as the signees continue to receive recognition following the completion of their senior seasons.
Talisha Chandler, from Clover High School in Greenwood, S.C., was recently named as the High School Sports Report Class AAA Player of the Year last week. Chandler led her team to the quarterfinals of the South Carolina girls state basketball tournament last spring. Chandler also competed on the South Carolina girls team that competed against a team of all-stars from neighboring North Carolina
Dedrea Magee, a guard from Picayune, Miss., also had an outstanding senior season for the Lady Tide of Picayune High. Magee earned elite distinction when she was named as the 2006 Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Mississippi. She was also named to the Clarion-Ledger All-State first team and was a member of the state’s “Dandy Dozen” team.
Nikki Davis, a point guard from Lexington, Ky., capped off her career as one of the winningest players, male or female, in the history of high school basketball in the Bluegrass state. Davis, who competed for powerhouse Lexington Catholic, became the second player in state history to participate in four state championship games in her career.
Davis led her team to the 2006 state title, the second-straight for the team, while earning All-Tournament honors. She averaged 10.0 points for her team, which ended the season ranked third in the nation by USA Today.
The trio of prep standouts will be joined in the fall by Alyson Butler, Brittany Logan, Courtney Strauthers and Tamara Williams.
