TUSCALOOSA ?? Jenny Suh, Alabama’s standout junior on the women’s golf team, has been named to the SEC’s first team for her efforts this season, the league office announced today.
“She deserves this honor after being a top player in the conference and in the nation,” Tide head coach Mic Potter said. “The reason Jenny wanted to come to Alabama was to test herself against the best players in nation in the deep and talented SEC. She certainly proved she belonged and has had a fantastic year for us.”
Suh, a two-time All-American who transferred to the Capstone after playing her first two seasons at Furman under first-year head coach Potter, earned her third first team all-conference honor in as many seasons after being named to the Southern Conference first team in her freshman and sophomore seasons.
The native of Fairfax, Va., has already had a record-setting impact in her first season in a Tide uniform. Suh is on pace to shatter the school’s single-season mark for stroke average and tied for the fourth-best single round in the Alabama record books with two rounds of 69 earlier this season.
Suh, who won the Southern Conference individual title as a sophomore after finishing as a runner-up in her freshman season, tied for seventh at the SEC Championships last week. She led her team for the eighth time in nine events this season and leads the team with four rounds under par this year.
After having been listed on the Golfweek preseason top-10 list, Suh has been ranked among the nation’s top 25 throughout most of the season.
Suh and the Crimson Tide will learn their postseason destination, if any, on May 1, when NCAA Regional assignments will be announced. If the Tide earns a bid, it will be the first for the program since 2004.
