
Tide Softball Completes Series Sweep of Wildcats

LEXINGTON, KY??The Alabama bats stayed hot using a nine-run first inning to record a 9-0, five-inning victory and complete a series sweep of the Kentucky Wildcats (14-22, 2-16).
Once again the fourth-ranked Tide (32-4, 12-0) took control early on taking a quick 9-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Alabama batted around in the inning, plating nine runs on eight hits which included a two-run home run off the bat of Ashley Holcombe and a three-run home run from Jordan Praytor.
Stephanie VanBrakle (19-2) collected her second win in the series allowing only one hit in three innings of work while striking out four batters. Blair Potter came on in relief, throwing the final two innings allowing no runs on one hit while striking out a batter.
Brittany Rogers and Praytor paced the Tide offense going a combined 4-6 on the day. Both were 2-2 in Bama's big nine-run inning.
Alabama steps out of conference play on Wednesday when the team hosts the Samford Bulldogs in a single game scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
GAME NOTES
--Alabama's nine-run inning was not a best against the Wildcats. The Crimson Tide recorded a 10-run inning in Alabama's 16-1 five-inning victory over the Cats on March 21, 1998.
--Seven of the Alabama starters scored in the first inning.
--Stephanie VanBrakle allowed only one hit in 10 innings pitched against the Wildcats.
--Alabama swept Kentucky for the ninth time in the series history. The Tide also improved its all-time record against UK to 25-1 (.962).
--Rogers finished the series going 9-11 (.818).
