TUSCALOOSA, Ala. --- University of Alabama women’s basketball coach Stephany Smith announced today that Mississippi’s Gatorade Player of the Year, Dedrea Magee, a 5-9, guard from Picayune (Miss.) Memorial High School, has signed a national letter of intent to play her college basketball at Alabama.
“Dedrea is an outstanding player,” Smith said, “and she will certainly compliment the six others we signed during the early signing period. Dedrea can play either the one, two or three spot and will be tremendous asset to our team.”
Magee helped the Lady Tide to a 25-3 record and the South 4A state playoffs, averaging 25.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 5.0 steals per game. She finished her career with 2,126 points as the school’s all-time leading scorer. A Jackson Clarion Ledger Dandy Dozen selection, Dedrea scored a career-high 40 points against Bay High in a game that she recorded a triple double (40 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds). She played for coach Dennis Peterson at Picayune.
