Dominique Accetturo Named SEC Player of the Week

Senior shortstop Dominique Accetturo has been named this week’s Southeastern Conference Player of the Week as announced by the league office today.
Accetturo hit .533 (8-15) during the week including an average of .417 (5-12) in the Tide’s three-game sweep of second-ranked Tennessee over the weekend. She recorded six RBI, five of which came in the Tide’s series with Tennessee. She had three multi-hit games over the four-game span while also going perfect in the field recording six putouts and registering seven assists without an error. She posted a slugging percentage of .667 and an on-base percentage of .563. Accetturo was involved in either the game-winning or game-tying RBI or run in all three victories over the Lady Vols, recording the game-winning RBI in Game 1; she also recorded a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the ninth against Tennessee in Game 2 to cut the lead to 4-3. She then came around to score the winning run on the next batter. She also scored the game-tying run in Alabama’s Game 3 victory over the Lady Vols.
The award was the first in her career and the sixth for an Alabama player this season.
In addition to this week, Jordan Praytor was named the league’s Player of the Week last week. Stephanie VanBrakle was named Pitcher of the Week on March 14 and February 20, while sophomore Dani Woods was named Player of the Week a week earlier on February 13. Brittany Rogers was named Freshman of the Week on March 14 as well.
It marks the 38th time in school softball history that Alabama has received the honor, which marks the most times in SEC history.
The sixth-ranked Crimson Tide (29-4, 9-0 SEC) is on the road this week as the team travels to Lexington, Kentucky for its first SEC road series this season.
