Senior pitcher Stephanie VanBrakle has been named this week’s Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league office today.
VanBrakle was named the Dunkin’ Donuts Invitational MVP based on her 3-0, 0.00 ERA performance in the tournament. She threw 20.0 innings while striking out 41 batters including a school record 18 strikeouts in the championship game against Missouri State. In the same game she struck out the first 13 batters she faced and finished the game with the eighth no-hitter in school history and the third in her career. VanBrakle allowed only three hits on the weekend as well, recording double-digit strikeouts in all three games. She held opponents to a .048 batting average on the weekend.
The award was the fourth in her career and the second for an Alabama player this season. Dani Woods was named SEC Player of the Week the first week of the season, February 13.
It marks the 34th time in school softball history that Alabama has received the honor, which marks the most times in SEC history.
The sixth-ranked Crimson Tide (9-1) is on the road this week as the team travels to Hattiesburg, Mississippi for a mid-week tilt against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles followed by the prestigious NFCA Leadoff Classic this weekend in Columbus, Georgia.
