TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? The University of Alabama Gymnastics program signed Jennifer Iovino to a national letter of intent in the early signing period according to head coach Sarah Patterson. Iovino will wear the crimson and white of Alabama starting with the 2008 season.
“We are thrilled to have Jennifer join our program and look forward to the many great qualities and talent she brings to the Crimson Tide,” Patterson said. “Jennifer and her family went through the recruiting process early in her junior year, visiting many of the nation’s top programs. We feel fortunate that she committed to the University of Alabama early in the process. Having her finally be able to sign her national letter of intent is exciting for all.”
The defending Level 10 National Floor Exercise Champion, Iovino also finished third in the all-around at the 2006 nationals. She competed at the 2005 United States Championships as a senior international elite.
“With a limited number of scholarships available for the 2007 school year it was important to us to find the perfect fit for our program,” Patterson said. “We feel we found that in Jennifer. She is someone who can contribute immediately on all events.”
The Olney, Maryland native is the daughter of Carol Ann and Frank Iovino. She attends Magruder High School where she is an honor student.
“Jennifer is a dedicated student-athlete who saw the benefits of our academic facilities that are second to none,” Patterson said. “We look forward to having her as a part of our championship program and feel certain that she will help continue the rich tradition embraced by our coaching staff and current student-athletes.
Iovino competed for Kelli Hill and Jen Bundy at Hill’s Angels, the same gym that produced Crimson Tide All-American Raegan Tomasek along with current Alabama sophomore Cassie Martin.
