Tuscaloosa- The University of Alabama cross country teams will compete at the NCAA south regional this Saturday in Knoxville, TN. The women are set to begin at 9:00 a.m. and the men will run at 10:00 a.m.
The women will once again look to senior Julia Hicks, who is trying to get an individual bid to the NCAA national championship race. In her senior campaign she has won two races and has been the Tide’s top finisher in every race this season. She has led the tide to the finish line in 12 consecutive races dating back to her sophomore year at the 2004 regionals.
“Julia is positioned well to make a strong run, she has been very consistent with her training and she is an accomplished cross country runner, she is always ready and loves to compete” women’s cross country coach Randy Hasenbank said.
The top four runners, not affiliated with a team already going to the NCAA national championship race, will qualify to race for the individual national championship on November 20, in Terre Haute, Indiana.
“We are looking for a top ten finish as a team this weekend, it’s a very competitive regional” Hasenbank said. “I fell that at least four maybe five teams from this regional could make the NCAA national championship field.”
