
Emery Signs Letter of Intent With Alabama

TUSCALOOSA ?? Alabama head women’s tennis coach Jenny Mainz announced on Wednesday that Meritt Emery has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Crimson Tide.
“We are thrilled that Meritt will be joining our Crimson Tide tennis family,” said Mainz. “Meritt will be a very positive asset and will contribute immediately. She is a proven winner and has the capabilities to help lead this Alabama program to new heights. It is always exciting when we can sign a strong player from the Southern section. Not only is Meritt successful on the tennis front, she is an exceptional individual with tremendous character. We are very much looking forward to her arrival.”
Emery is the daughter of Dennis Emery, the current head men’s tennis coach at the University of Kentucky. Dennis Emery is now in his 24th year as coach for the Wildcats. He is ranked eighth all time with 514 career victories.
Ranked No. 149 nationally in the Girls 18’s Meritt Emery will be looking to become only the second individual to win four state championships. She won the Kentucky High School State Championship in each of her first three years. She is also ranked No. 16 in the Southern Girls 18’s. She has recorded numerous victories over players ranked in the top-30 nationally, including victories against Jennifer Meredith, Mallory Burdette and Claire Bartlett.
Meritt’s brother, Matt, played tennis at Kentucky from 2001-04. He was a four-year letterwinner who compiled a 56-74 career singles record.
