TUSCALOOSA ?? University of Alabama women’s golf coach Mic Potter added a second player to his recruiting class when it was announced that Camilla Lennarth, a product of Sweden, has signed a letter of intent to join the Tide for the 2007-08 season.
“We saw Camilla play with the Swedish Junior National team in Tennessee last year and were really impressed with her game,” Potter said. “Camilla is a player with a ton of international experience and a great golf background. She was a highly recruited player and we are fortunate to bring her to the University of Alabama. Her signing is a big step toward helping our program compete at the national level.”
Lennarth, from Stockholm, Sweden, is the latest in a string of Swedish players to compete for the Tide. No fewer than nine competitors from Sweden have suited up at Alabama, including the most recent, Helena Blomberg, a true freshman on this year’s Tide unit.
A student at Klippans Gymnasieskola in Klippans, Sweden, Lennarth plays for the Troxhammar club team. She earned a spot on the Swedish Junior National team a year ago and is currently the third-ranked junior player in Sweden. Lennarth is ranked 45th in the most recent American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) rankings.
In May, she earned a 12th-place finish at the Thunderbird International Junior, an event designed to bring together many of the top junior players in the world, in Scottsdale, Ariz. Lennarth also recorded a ninth-place finish at the Spanish Ladies Amateur earlier this year.
The daughter of Claes and Lena Lennarth, Camilla joins Courtney Harter of Clearwater, Fla., in the Tide’s 2007 recruiting class.
Alabama returns to the course in late February for the spring season after a fall campaign that saw the Tide earn two top-five finishes.
