Alabama’s Max Alverio shot 71, one under par, in Friday’s second round at the World Amateur Team Championships in
Stellenbosch, South Africa. The Crimson Tide junior golfer is part of the three man team from
Puerto Rico competing for the Eisenhower Trophy.
Alverio goes into Saturday’s third round of the 72-hole tournament in a T-52nd place after opening at T-63rd. He shot 75-71/146 and is two over par after 36 holes on the par 72 course. Puerto Rico moved up four spots in the standings as well and is T-35th after two rounds. Play continues through Sunday. Canada (139-139/278) has a one shot lead over the United States (143-136/279) in the team standings. The USA’s Chris Kirk is tied with former University of Georgia golfer Richard Scott, who is competing for Canada, for the individual lead. Both are at seven under par, 137. Kirk shot 66 on Friday to move into the share of the top spot.
