
Doubles Teams Continue Success at ITA Southeast Regional

Lexington, Ky. ?? Two Alabama doubles teams advanced to the round of 16 on the second day of the 2006 Wilson/ITA Southeast at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex in Lexington, Ky.
Dan Buikema and Matt Thibaudeau won for the second straight day with an 8-5 win over Poole and ten Berge of Ole Miss. They will advance to the next round where they will face fourth-seeded Cevka and Stiegwardt of Georgia State on Sunday. Saketh Myneni and Sammy Struyf earned a close 9-8 (8) victory over Georgia Southern's DeWeerdt and Nkoueleue. The other first round winner, Javier Bes and Billy Mertz, lost a tight match to Auburn's Lathouwers and Marsoun, 9-7.
Four players were in action in singles on Saturday with three winning their first matches. Joseph Jung, the seventh seed in the tournament, won 6-3, 6-4 over Jan Zelezny of LSU to advance to the next round. Struyf also won his first match. He defeated Kentucky's Will Ward in three sets 3-6, 7-5, 6-1. Bes downed Boria Zarco of Tennessee Tech in three sets 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Mertz lost his first match of the day to sixth-seeded Andreas Siljestrom of Middle Tennessee State 6-2, 7-5.
The tournament is taking place at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex and the Lexington Tennis Club. There will be two rounds of singles and doubles played on Sunday. The tournament will run through Monday with the champions earning automatic bids to the ITA National Indoor Championships.
